Please find below our prices (t&cs apply please see below) for 2007 Vintage Port En Primeur.
Prices quoted are for 6 bottles unsplit (except for the Taylor's 2007 Vargellas Vinha Velha), however, we would be happy to sell by the bottle too.
It's been no secret that the 2007 vintage is a great one. I've given some brief tasting notes below for the ports we are offering, however if you'd like any further information I have some PDF information sheets available - please let me know. For your interest, I've included the scores from James Suckling, the respected port commentator, from the Wine Spectator publication.
If you'd like to register an interest for an allocation please give me a call (01422 256333) or send me and email letting me know which port you're interested and how much you'd like. As soon as we are informed of our allocation we'll get back you to, but this may not be until end of July, approx.
Croft 2007 ~ 6bts £167.00
This port house is probably over the last ten years the most improved producer.
This is the second classic vintage port to be produced since Croft returned to family ownership in Sept 2001.
Croft's winemaker David Guimaraens commented "The 2007 harvest produced beautifully balanced and elegant wines. The Croft vintage 2007 shows wonderful complexity with all the exotic aroma and luscious fruitiness associated with the house style"
Croft's Tasting Note ~ Deep purple black with narrow magenta rim. The heady and powerfully aromatic nose displays a characteristic abundance of rich plump fruit and the exotic notes of eucalyptus and rock rose which are the hallmark of the Quinta da Roeda wines on which the blend is based. Juicy and luscious on the palate, with discreet and well fused tannins and a long generous finish".
(Wine Spectator score 89 - 92)
Graham's 2007 ~ 6bts £207.50
I thought this was probably the most 'showy' 2007, really rich. If you like your vintage port big and bold this is the one for you.
Graham's Tasting Note ~ Very solid and intense deep purple colour. Rich floral aromas of violets and eucalyptus give a very special elegance to this wine. Very attractive rich blackberry flavoured fruit with excellent texture and firmness. The sheer power, weight, complexity and balance of this wine guarantee its longevity.
(Wine Spectator score 96 - 99)
Niepoort 2007 ~ 6bts £192.00
As always, sheer class, refinement and elegance from this top, but from an English market view point, still underrated port house.
Niepoort's Tasting Note ~ Aromas of dark fruits are wonderfully contrasted with slightly green nuances and great finesse. On the palate, medium sweet, which combines well with a very tight structure. The taste exhibits firm tannins and length but with great elegance.
(Wine Spectator score 92 - 95)
Quinta do Vale Meao 2007 ~ 6bts £157.00
In my opinion, price wise, this is the steal of the vintage. Really great value.
Quinta do Vale Meao is one of the very few great 'chateaux' of the Douro, originally established in 1877 by Dona Antonia Ferreira. Today the estate is owned and run by the descendents of this most famous "Lady of the Douro".
James Suckling (Wine Spectator) ~ Intense aromas of crème de cassis, blackberry and wet earth. Full-bodied, with medium sweetness and a solid core of dense, polished tannins. It goes on for minutes. Structure with harmony. A very serious effort from this mighty wine estate". Score 93-96 points.
Taylor's 2007 ~ 6bts £210.00
Again in my humble opinion, the most classic, structured and overall 'points winner' from this vintage.
Taylor's Managing Director Adrian Bridge stated "A declaration is not an annual event. It only occurs when the quality of the vintage is exceptional and always attracts strong interest whatever the economic climate. The 2007 wines have been impressive from the start, displaying crisp, vibrant fruit and wonderful balance. In keeping with the house style, the Taylor 2007 is showing great elegance, poise and a fine scented quality contributed by the Vargellas wines on which the blend is based".
Taylor's Tasting Note ~ Opaque, purple black colour with a narrow violet rim. Characteristically stylish and racy, with a nose of dense blackcurrant and woodland fruit overlaid with discreet herbal nuances and scents of violet and rose petals…. On the palate it displays the lean, sinewy and tightly knit tannins which are so much a feature of the Taylor style and the vibrant and clearly delineated fruit flavours which are the hallmark of the 2007 vintage.
(Wine Spectator score 94 - 97)
Taylor's 2007 Vargellas Vinha Velha ~ 3bts £293.00
Allocations of this port are miniscule, and due to us receiving a number of interests already, I regret that it's all gone. However, if you'd like to resister an interest I'll keep your details on file if I hear of any bottles going spare - but in reality I'm not going to hold my breath!
(Wine Spectator score 97 - 100)
Warre's 2007 ~ 6bts £173.00
Super concentration and complex character with layers of sweet fruit, cherry, mocha and bitter chocolate. This has a lovely velvet mouth feel, with fine silky tannins and a lovely long ripe fresh fruit finish. Very impressive price to quality ratio on this port.
(Wine Spectator score 95 - 98)
