The Cluver family bought the De Rust Estate in 1896 to provide summer grazing for their livestock. In the mid 1900's it became a strong apple producing region, and in the mid 1980's the area was identified as a cool climate wine-growing region.
The family-run estate is in the Elgin Valley and forms part of The Kogelberg Biosphere world heritage site.
